YOUTH ARTISTS

How can young people help to preserve special places?

Remember your first hike? Remember the tree that had a knot in it bigger than your head? Maybe you have a memory of a chipmunk climbing on a rock to eat some nuts you dropped when you ate your snack. How about the small purple mushrooms you spotted on the side of the trail? What if you were to find out these places of happy memories were to be bulldozed and ripped down to build a new mall or housing development? How would you feel? Would you want to protect those special places?

If you have an important place in your area you want to protect and preserve, tell us about it. What makes it unique? It could be a natural space, but it could also be a historic place. Please send us your artwork of this special place. We believe art has the power to connect people. You can draw or paint a picture, but we also like other artistic forms of expression. Write and perform a song about it, or write an inspiring poem or short story. If you are a dancer, choreograph and video a dance about how nature makes you feel. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Please share whatever you think will inspire people to care about your special place. Contact us with questions concerning art submissions. We look forward to sharing your artistic voice with others and will give them an opportunity to donate to a preservation or conservation organization you would like to support.

Tell people about us! The more people who know about our program, the more people can help! You can change something for the better… no matter what age.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.“
