Our first day on our trip started a little early for me, but it was good to begin another trip for P.A.P.A. The plane ride to Denver was uneventful, but not great (as plane rides often go), and we arrived in Denver around 11:00 AM mountain time.
Grayson, my mom and I decided to go to the Denver Zoo until Dad was done with his work. The zoo was much larger than any other zoo I had ever been to before. They had all sorts of animals, (obviously, because its a zoo… kinda stating the obvious) and it made me realize how many animals were endangered in the world. Even in the small handful of species at the zoo, I would estimate around 50% of them were endangered, mainly from habitat loss and poaching. When I thought about it, the animals and plants can really make a place what it is. When you lose the life in an area, it can really ruin the beauty of the place.
One of the animals I enjoyed watching the most was the hippo. It waded into its “pool” and swam around. It went under the surface of the water for many minutes at a time, would emerge, and open it enormous mouth showing its enormous teeth the size of bananas! The animals had large enclosures, and plenty of room to roam around.
We finally met up with Dad at the hotel, which was round like our house!
He took us down to the hotel’s pool, and Grayson and I swam around in the pool for a little bit before we went to bed.
Behind us was the Denver Broncos “Mile High” stadium, and with a game tomorrow, the hotel was full! (sorry Bronco fans, but I’m not really into American football) We could see out over the Denver skyline, with lots of buildings and even some roller-coaster rides at a theme park across the highway. I liked Denver, but I’d rather be in a forest somewhere. We went to bed hoping we could adjust to the time change soon.
